Did Hemingway Say It?
"Never confuse movement with action."
In A. E. Hotchner's 1966 book, Papa Hemingway, Hotchner recalls a conversation he had with Marlene Dietrich about Hemingway's gift of profound insight. Dietrich had received a lucrative job offer at a Miami night club, but was debating whether or not she should accept it. Hemingway advised: "Don't do what you sincerely don't want to do. Never confuse movement with action."
"Never confuse movement with action" is one of Hemingway's most popular quotations and is included in the book, Neverisms: A Quotation Lover's Guide to Things You Should Never Do, Never Say, or Never Forget.
