The Gotham Group recently acquired the film rights to A. E. Hotchner's 1966 book, Papa Hemingway. Papa Hemingway is a personal account of Hotchner and Hemingway's friendship and focuses on the last thirteen years of Hemingway's life.
Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, a co-producer for the film, said of Hotchner's book: "It is rare that we have such intimate, truthful knowledge about the life and, ultimately, demise of a true American icon. Hotchner's stories hold a mythical value to those of us who so respect the author Hemingway but know little about the man."
The burning question now is who will be cast in the role of Ernest Hemingway. Brad Frenette, a writer for the National Post, suggested James Gandolfini (according to imdb.com, Gandolfini is already attached to a 2011 "Untitled Ernest Hemingway Project"), William Hurt, or an aged Robert Downey Jr.
