Mariel Hemingway is the third child of John Hemingway and Byra Whittlesey Whitlock. She is named after a Cuban fishing village that her grandfather frequented.
Mariel made her film debut alongside sister Margot in the 1976 film Lipstick. She went on to play Woody Allen's high school lover in the 1979 film Manhattan. Her performance earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Other notable film roles include a bisexual athlete in the 1982 movie Personal Best and Playboy model Dorothy Stratten in the 1983 film Star 80.
In addition to her successful film career, Mariel is also a published author. Her books include Finding My Balance: A Memoir (2003) and Mariel Hemingway's Healthy Living From the Inside Out: Every Woman's Guide to Real Beauty, Renewed Energy, and a Radiant Life (2007).
Mariel married Stephen Crisman on December 9, 1984 and they had two daughters together: Dree and Langley.
